“Art Brings Communities Together”

That is the slogan of this year’s manifestation “Mining for a Better Society – Art Brings Communities Together”, said Huang Han, who, on behalf of the organizers, greeted the participants of the art colony and wished them a pleasant stay in Bor, a great time, and inspiration. – I brought a lot of broken, fine-grained glass because there is so much sun and light here, so I decided that the landscape I will make should be clear, full of light, air, and transparent fluid, said Professor Tomislav Todorović
BOR LAKE. – Bor Lake and Hotel “Jezero” were four days (from July 17 to 20) the meeting place of painters and painting lovers from Serbia, who responded to the invitation of two Zijin companies to participate in the thematic art competition called “Zijin Art 2024”. The art colony was organized to meet the Serbian Miners’ Day, and this year it gathered 50 painters from Belgrade, Niš, Pančevo, Negotin, Prokuplje, Leskovac, Paraćin, Zaječar, Bor, Majdanpek and Žagubica. All of them had the opportunity to immortalize on canvas, using the technique of their choice, the picturesque landscapes of Bor, Majdanpek, and Bor Lake on two given topics. The first was connected with the development of the green mining industry in Bor and Majdanpek, including the landscapes of mines, mining equipment, facilities, miners, etc., while the other included the landscapes of Bor and Majdanpek, the characteristic architecture, as well as the motives from the history and culture.

– I was born in Jagodina, but I grew up in Majdanpek. I’m glad that a colony of this type is happening “in my yard” and that’s why I’m here again. Last year, I also painted the landscape of Majdanpek, and this time I will too – said Tatjana Karabašević.
A retired professor from the Academy of Arts – Novi Sad Tomislav Todorović, has been active on the Serbian art scene for over four decades. He says that he participated in the work of 43 art colonies, and this year he decided to join the “Zijin Art” colony as well.
– I brought a lot of broken, fine-grained glass because there is so much sun and light here, so I decided that the landscape I will make should be clear, full of light, air, and transparent fluid. Light, greenery, and warmth are inspiring and make people content and happy – said Tomislav Todorović, known to the citizens of Bor for the numerous sculptures he bequeathed to them. One of them, “Adam and Eve”, still adorns the hall of the Hotel “Jezero” to this day.
The works created during the art colony will remain the property of two of Zijin companies, which will organize an exhibition of paintings from August 2 to 10 at the Hotel “Jezero”. On Serbian Miners’ Day, August 6, the authors of the awarded works will be presented with cash prizes.
The prize fund amounts to EUR 4,100 in RSD equivalent, and one first prize, two second prizes, three third prizes, and 10 incentive prizes will be awarded. The first prize is EUR 1,000, the second prize is EUR 600, the third prize is EUR 300, and the incentive prize is EUR 100.
