Serbia Zijin Copper has joined the global fight against climate change, as it strives to reduce its carbon footprint and be a pioneer among businessmen in innovative and responsible behavior towards the environment. \u2013 By implementing new technologies, we reduced the use of \u201cdirty\u201d energy sources, \u201cresponsible\u201d for the emission of carbon dioxide and other gases with a greenhouse effect, and the development of a plan for monitoring such gases is underway, says Mirjana Mari\u0107. She adds that an agreement was signed with the Bor Institute for Mining and Metallurgy on the greening of the old landfill \u201cVisoki planiri\u201d, which dominates the city, and according to her, 355 thousand square meters of this devastated area have been recultivated so far.<\/strong><\/p>\n SZK. \u2013 <\/strong>Since Zijin\u2019s arrival in Serbia, the investments in Bor and Majdanpek have ninefold exceeded the price at which the Chinese company recapitalized the mining and metallurgical combine and realized a strategic partnership with Serbia. In the technical renovation of four mines and a smelter in Bor, as well as in numerous safety and environmental protection projects, Serbia Zi\u0111in Koper invested two billion and 594 million US dollars in five years, i.e. twice more than what it was obliged to do until the end this year. Of that sum, only about 225 million dollars were invested in environmental protection and ecology, which is three times more than the amount agreed in the strategic cooperation agreement. That is why the overall ecological situation in Bor and Majdanpek is much better.<\/p>\n Although work in the field of environmental protection is long-term and requires patience, the changes made in that area by Serbia Zijin Copper are visible to the naked eye after only five years, primarily thanks to the greening project of the old Bor landfill \u201cVisoki planiri\u201d. It has dominated the city for more than half a century, and the company entered into the reclamation project even though that work was not an integral part of the Strategic Partnership Agreement with the Government of Serbia, since it is about plots of land that are the historical heritage of the former RTB Bor.<\/p>\n Serbia Zijin Copper signed an agreement with the Bor Institute for Mining and Metallurgy, which is the holder of the rights over this vast plot of land owned by the Serbian state, on the greening of the \u201cVisoki planiri\u201d, and so far 355 thousand square meters of this degraded mining area have been recultivated.<\/p>\n In five years, the company recultivated around 200 hectares of devastated areas in Bor and planted 560,000 seedlings.<\/p>\n \u2013 In this way, Serbia Zijin Copper also joined the global fight against climate change, as it strives to reduce its carbon footprint and be a pioneer among businessmen in innovative and responsible behavior towards the environment. Those new forest areas will prevent soil erosion and preserve water reserves. Because just one hectare of forested land has the capacity to hold 700,000 liters of clean water. That is why we strive to include the local population, primarily young people, in reforestation actions in Bor and Majdanpek, so that we can all contribute to the greening of degraded areas \u2013 <\/strong>points out Mirjana Mari\u0107 and adds that one of the main goals of the company is to raise awareness of the importance and value of forest resources.<\/p>\n \u2013 We have set ourselves the goal of planting a hundred more trees and greening additional areas around the factory between two important ecological dates \u2013 World Forest Day and Earth Day. In addition to good production results, we are trying to strengthen the environmental awareness of employees, and actions like this are an example that we are on the right track<\/strong> \u2013 says the deputy manager of the flotation \u201cVeliki Krivelj\u201d Aleksandar Petkovi\u0107.<\/p>\n These days, 30,000 tulip bulbs bloomed in the grounds of the Bor Smelter and Refinery, which made the area between the desulphurization plant and the new electrolysis seem like a fairy tale.<\/p>\n \nThe tulip is said to be the flower that changed the world. A flower that brings revival and positive changes. The field of tulips in the \u201cheart\u201d of the Bor smelter symbolizes the re-industrialization of metallurgical capacities, the application of world standards and modern technologies, but also the company\u2019s desire for Bor to become a green, low-carbon and sustainable base of non-ferrous metals in Serbia, as well as in Europe.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
